Late last year, a little known developer released a game that would essentially redefine the dying horror genre on mobile phones- Darkest Fear. We embraced it, and found that it was quite possibly the first game on phones to create a sense of fear- albeit a bit of a small one. It came with resident evil-styled surroundings, a lush noir atmosphere, multiple endings, a long lifetime and a reasonable challenge, which pushed all the right buttons with us, to be honest. We were also over the moon when we found out that it was the first of a trilogy of Darkest Fear games, all to be released this year. The second, Darkest Fear 2: Grim Oak, is already upon us, and looks like its going to rock our world once again.

This game is a very bright and interesting example of SimCity-like style. You’re playing one of Caesar’s confidants, although not intially trusted enough to rule an important province. Step by step, you’re getting tasks to show your worth and faith and improve your influence within the government and finally take over and become the new Caesar yourself, and even more than that, yet that’s what you’ll have to discover on your own. The campaign is combined with tutorials, so when it gets down to the more serious actions, you already understand the basics.
